Iron Maiden have a lot of awesome cover art. But what if they released different songs as singles over the past 50 years? Perhaps these nine alternate single cover art designs will answer that question. You will have to imagine them Derek Riggs-ified though.

Phantom of the Opera

I could just imagine a hatchet-job single edit to cut out the bluesy midsection soloing.

Killers

“Wrathchild” would also have been a likely pick, were it not already for the fact that it was technically already a double A-side with “Twilight Zone”.

Gangland

With “Invaders” firmly on the B-side.

Die With Your Boots On

Yeah it’s about Nostradamus, but who doesn’t want to see Western Eddie?

Powerslave

Credit to my friend Mike Lebrain for the inspiration behind this design.

Mother Russia

My favourite song on No Prayer For The Dying. Lyrical content notwithstanding, this tune has a hell of a riff to headbang to, plus how could I not take the chance to create Cossack Eddie? As a bonus, Baroness Redan from the Legacy of the Beast mobile game makes a cameo here too.

These Colours Don’t Run

I could imagine them putting this song out as a single as a statement. And I just had to build the tribute to Donnington stage.

The Talisman

A long one yes, but they put “Empire of the Clouds” out as a single too so it’s fine.

Days of Future Past

This was probably the easiest pick on here, as it was the only short, straight to business rocker on the album that wasn’t already a single. This artwork meanwhile, was intended to be the other side of the art to their first single, “Running Free”, as you can see a hand extending out towards the individual running at the ‘camera’.

So what do you think? Reckon these songs would make the single cut, or are there other tracks you’d like to see get this treatment? Let me know down below.

  1. Awesome indeed, Harrison. They’re all great. Enjoyed the first episode of the Maiden YouTube series with Mike too, by the way.  Best, Henry.
